Taksim means “division” or “distribution” because the square was originally a water distribution center. Today, Taksim Square is the heart of modern Istanbul. It is filled with hotels, shops, restaurants and is a central point for public transportation, parades, demonstrations and other public events.

Taksim signifie «division» ou «distribution», car la place etait a l'origine un centre de distribution d'eau. Aujourd'hui, elle est le coeur de l'Istanbul moderne, avec ses hotels, magasins, restaurants. Elle est egalement un point central pour les transports publics, defiles, manifestations et autres evenements publics.
