They are surrounded by other members of the Al-Sabah clan, the royal family of Kuwait. ..Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah was born 1928; he was proclaimed the 13th Amir from the Al-Sabah family on December 31, 1977. When he died on 15 January 2006, his distance cousin, Sheikh Saad Al-Abdallah Al-Sabah, succeeded him for a short reign of ten days from January 15 to January 24, 2006. He abdicated his position as the Emir of Kuwait, due to his state of health. He suffers from cancer and colon problems. On January 24, 2006, the Kuwaiti parliament voted Saad out of office, moments before an official letter of abdication was received. Finally, the Kuwaiti Cabinet nominated Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah for the position of Emir of Kuwait.
