Turkey, Istanbul, Sirkeci District to the Asian side of Istanbul, October 5, 2012
The view of the Asian coastline of Istanbul comes into view as the ferry coming from the European side reaches land. The ferry travels across the Bosphorus Straight, also referred to as the Istanbul Strait, which forms the boundary between the European and the Asian sides of Turkey. At 32 kilometers (20 miles) long, the Bosphorus joins the Sea of Marmara with the Black Sea in Istanbul. Two suspension bridges cross over the Bosphorus: the Bosphorus Bridge, completed in 1973, and the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge, completed in 1988.
